The Cheap Defensive Driving Course: Making It Work For You

Category: Cars - November 27, 2007

Taking a defensive driving course is a great way to qualify for a discount on your automobile insurance coverage premium. But if the cost of the course is more than you will save on your insurance, the motivation can be a bit shaky. Find out from your insurance agent if your company offers a discount, and if so, how much of a discount.

If your insurance company will, look for a cheap defensive driving course which will not swallow more the money you save on your premium. What exactly does cheap mean?

A cheap defensive driving course should cost no more than $50, and there are driving schools which offer such courses. But you may not have such a school in your immediate area, so you’ll have to turn to the Internet to find your cheap defensive driving course. There really are online driving schools, and you can check for one with a cheap defensive driving course at the website of the National Safety Council. The NSC oversees a national DDC, or Defensive Driving Course.

Reasons Not To Go Ahead

You should also have a checklist of things you need to know before choosing a cheap defensive driving course. If the course will set you back more than you will save on a year’s worth of auto insurance premiums, forget about it.

If the providers of the cheap defensive driving course cannot promise that the completing the course will qualify you for an insurance premium discount, forget about it.

If the cheap defensive driving course will not earn you the certificate or other visible proof that your insurance company requires before giving you a discount, forget about it.

If you do not have an active driver’s license, and think that completing a cheap defensive driver’s course will either get you a driver’s license or get your suspended driver’s license reinstated, forget about it.

If your computer does not have the system requirements necessary to handle the software from the cheap defensive driving course, forget about it.

If you aren’t sure you will complete an online defensive driving course after you’ve started it, you may have to forget about your money as well. Many online schools have a no-refund policy on classes once they are started, but on the bright side, you did sign up for a cheap defensive driving course.

If You Found No Reason Not To Go Ahead

When you’ve found a cheap defensive driving course which meets your criteria, simply download their software to your PC, and start reading what shows up on your monitor. Your software will act as a link between your PC and the school computer, so that your progress will be noted and your completion certificate printed when you have done all that is required!
